First and foremost you must understand that his loyalty is to the insurance company he works for, therefore he is not paid to find all the damage.
He also is not actually qualified to prepare an estimate properly. He has gone to a few days of schooling on the computer program his company uses, and he has been an adjuster for years and years he will tell you. But has he ever built a home himself? No! Is he a licensed contractor that does this work for a living? No!
So he says he will have a local contractor write the estimate, but this contractor works for the insurance company. They get multiple jobs a week from this insurance company so they too are loyal to the insurance company. If you don’t sign a contract with them they will spend an hour or so and prepare an estimate and they say if they missed anything they can give the adjuster a supplement to the claim. But how is this good for you. They are in control with the adjuster and yet this is your property.
Why not get the estimate right the first time. Why not have someone that is on your side protecting your interests prepare an estimate free of charge.
