Troy Payne – Why is the adjusters estimate so low

You had a fire, Now what do you do?

The insurance adjuster will prepare an estimate of the damages, Why is his estimate so low says Troy Payne?

First and foremost you must understand that his loyalty is to the insurance company he works for, therefore he is not paid to find all the damage.

He also is not actually qualified to prepare an estimate properly. He has gone to a few days of schooling on the computer program his company uses, and he has been an adjuster for years and years he will tell you. But has he ever built a home himself?  No! Is he a licensed contractor that does this work for a living? No!

So he says he will have a local contractor write the estimate, but this contractor works for the insurance company. They get multiple jobs a week from this insurance company so they too are loyal to the insurance company. If you don’t sign a contract with them they will spend an hour or so and prepare an estimate and they say if they missed anything they can give the adjuster a supplement to the claim. But how is this good for you. They are in control with the adjuster and yet this is your property.

Why not get the estimate right the first time. Why not have someone that is on your side protecting your interests prepare an estimate free of charge. An estimate that is prepared by someone that is considered an expert through federal court. This is what we supply you with. We do it right from the start.

The difference between our estimate and the insurance companies first estimate is substantial. Many times 50% to 100% more. Why? Because we care about your interests. It is our job to look and find all the damage, to prove our position, to treat this loss like it was our own and make sure you are paid properly for the damages.

We will meet with you free of charge and educate you as to the process, explain to you the do’s and more importantly the DONTS!

We will review your policy with you free of charge. After our consultation if you feel you need our help we will be glad to assist you. If you feel you can handle the claim yourself you will be better educated to do so

Troy Payne – The Claim money is Your Money

You had a fire, Now what do you do?

The insurance adjuster will want you to sign a contract with a local restoration contractor that he works with daily. Why is this bad? Why does this cost you too much?

The local contractor will tell you that if you sign with him, he will work with the adjuster and get paid from the insurance company directly. In other words the adjuster and the contractor control the money. This is NEVER good.

Think of the insurance loss the same as you would building a new home or doing a major remodel on your home.

You would not go to one contractor and just give them an open checkbook.

You would first get multiple estimates. These estimates would be from contractors that came highly recommended by people you know. Not just from an adjuster that is loyal to the insurance company and to that contractor. You would make sure you agreed to the scope of the work. What work YOU are going to pay them for. That’s right YOU are going to pay them. This is your money says Troy Payne. The insurance policy is a contract and it says that when you have a covered loss the insurance company will pay YOU! Then you get the repairs done. Pick a contractor that is on your side that your friends and relatives recommended.

Troy Payne – You need help understanding your Insurance policy

You had a fire, Now what do you do?

Do you have a copy of your insurance policy? If so have your read it? But the big question is do you understand it?

This could be the most important financial decision you make in your lifetime. You need help to understand your insurance policy. It is a legal and binding CONTRACT.

You can read it but do you know the case law that goes along with it. Some times the policy seems to say one thing but the law interprets it as something totally different. The policy may say in plain English that something is not covered. However the local case law says it is covered. This could be huge to you.

Troy Payne says we can provide hundreds of examples of this situation. We know the case law; we study the current litigation that is in process so we can aide you properly in the handling of your claim.

Troy Payne – You should control the money

You had a fire, Now what do you do?

The insurance adjuster will want you to sign a contract with a local restoration contractor that he works with daily. Why is this bad? Why should you control the money?

The local contractor will tell you that if you sign with him, he will work with the adjuster and get paid from the insurance company directly. In other words the adjuster and the contractor control the money. This is never good says Troy Payne.

Your policy explains that you present your loss to the insurance company. They then must pay for the repairs to return you to the exact position you were one second prior to the fire. That means no smoke inside your walls. The adjuster will want to save things. The contractor he recommends will go along with this because he gets multiple jobs a week from the insurance company so he has to go along with the adjuster.

If you make changes to your project, you want granite tops in the kitchen in-lieu of the Formica you had the contractor will charge you extra. But if you CONTROL the money you can save in one place and spend extra in another.

Troy Payne – Never Hire the local Insurance Restoration Contractor

You had a fire, Now what do you do?

Your insurance company adjuster wants you to sign a contract with a local fire restoration repair company. He wants you to get moving on the repairs as fast as possible. This is a BAD IDEA!

This could be the single most important financial decision you will make in your life says Troy Payne. Take your time. The insurance company wants you to get moving forward with the repairs because they want to cut corners to save money. This is for their benefit not yours. It saves them money but it cost you.

No matter how they make it look the local contractor that is recommended by the insurance adjuster is not on your side. He does not work for you. He works for the insurance company. They called him not you. They work with him every day not you.

It is up to you who you hire not the adjuster. Let us explain how all this SHOULD work. How you should be paid for the repairs and the RIGHT way to get those repairs done so that you are in control not the insurance company.
